We’ll be with you every step along the way. How long will it take you to go from Goal Setting to Sale? It depends on numerous factors and is usually best achieved in 24-36 months. Our on-going support includes regular coaching sessions via Zoom. For this model to work, you must agree to the following guidelines:
You must be committed to a “best fit” sale. Best fit means you understand and consider the interests of the four primary parties: clients, buyer, teammates, and you. This does not mean everyone gets a vote or the final sale is perfect for everyone. This is not realistic. However, if your sole sale criteria is to maximize the financial benefits to you, then our services are not a good fit.
You will be flexible and explore sales terms and conditions. While it’s okay to have a sale price, exit date and other desired outcomes, a successful sale requires flexibility and resilience. If your focus is on “your way or the highway,” you are unlikely to find a willing buyer. Taking a position instead of expressing interests limits your options.
You must be open to learn and explore the business sales process. A buyer may have made other business acquisitions, but you probably have not. As a result, you must approach a sale process with an open mind and be willing to learn how this game is played. Like any game, there is new terminology to learn and rules and guidelines to follow. Approach a sale and purchase with an open mind and a spirit of adventure. That will bring a better experience and result.
You must be able to make and keep commitments. The sales journey is full of minor and major decision points. Your ability to stick with your decisions helps ensure a successful sale. Negotiating in good faith starts early. Building trust with all interested parties supports the sale before and after the sale date.
You must be committed to continue serving your current clients in the best way possible throughout the sales process. Towards the end of the sales process, the temptation will be to lose your focus on client service. This is something against which you must guard. Clients need and deserve your attention to their needs up to and even after the sale. Keep in mind the ultimate success of a sale depends to a great extent on your clients’ willingness to continue to accept your services and the services of your successor.
